Whiplash symptoms normally manifest
within a short time of the occurrence of a whiplash
injury. However, whiplash symptoms can appear up to
several days after the injured party experienced the
whiplash injury. If you think you are displaying any of
the following symptoms of whiplash injury, you should
immediately visit your doctor or health care
professional for treatment.
* neck and/ or shoulder pain
* neck and/ or shoulder stiffness
* feelings of tiredness, lack of energy or tearfulness
* dizziness
* whiplash headache
* blurred vision
* swelling of the neck muscles
* tenderness along the back of the neck/ cervical spine
* restriction in neck´s normal range of movement
* lower back pain
* muscle spasms
* problems with swallowing
* sensation of lump in throat
* blurred vision
* ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
* pain, pins and needles or numbness in the shoulders,
arms or hands
As well as these whiplash symptoms, the effects of
whiplash may manifest some time after the whiplash
injury occurred. These may include memory loss or a lack
of ability to concentrate for sustained periods of time.
Whiplash symptoms normally disappear
anywhere between a few weeks and a few months after the
occurrence of a whiplash injury. However, it is not
unusual for some sufferers to experience whiplash
symptoms months or even years after the event, although
these are normally less and less severe with the passing
of time. A very small number of people suffering
whiplash neck injury develop a continuance of whiplash
symptoms, also known as whiplash syndrome. It is also
worth noting that where a party may deemed to be at
fault for causing whiplash neck injury, whiplash
compensation may be sought via legal channels by the
individual or individuals suffering whiplash symptoms. If you have, or suspect you may have a neck health
problem, always talk to your health care professional
for diagnosis and treatment advice. |
